4.39.09pm GMT Wed 17th Jan 2007

Local MP Willie Rennie has welcomed the successful 'Phones 4 Africa' campaign which has so far raised over £1500 for a charity of its choice since being launched in October 2006.

Willie Rennie has himself donated his old mobile phone to the cause, and has welcomed warm response that has come from his constituents so far.

Mr Rennie said:

"The Phones 4 Africa has so far proved to be a brilliant success, providing phones for people in Africa who cannot themselves afford them, and raising over £1500 in the process.

"Particularly in the aftermath of Christmas, when many people will have received new phones, I would continue to urge anybody with an old mobile phone - or any other equipment - to donate it to the campaign."
