Earlier this year, Jim Tolson MSP and former Westminster MP Willie Rennie met with members of the Submarine Dismantling Project and staff from MOD based in Rosyth for a briefing on the Submarine Dismantling Project.
Jim commented "At the time we were informed that a decision would probably not be announced until after the General Election and that the elected members in the area would be kept informed. During our meeting in January, a public consultation was mentioned as likely to start early in 2011. So far, I haven't heard anything else from the MOD about this issue and have now written to the Project Manager for the Submarine Dismantling Project requesting an early update.
Concerns have been expressed in this area for many years about the presence of decommissioned submarines in the dockyard area and more recently the condition of the vessels has been brought to the attention of the general public again in the local press. This is an emotive subject which is likely to cause much public disquiet particularly if there is a lack of public information and speculation. I am strongly urging the MOD to engage with the public through their elected representatives"
