Scottish soldiers' FAIs should be implemented with minimum delay - Rennie

November 4, 2009 3:00 PM

Commenting on Lord Cullen's report on Fatal Accident Inquiries (FAIs), which said that it should be possible to hold FAIs into Scottish residents who die abroad, Liberal Democrat Defence Spokesperson, Willie Rennie said:

"While the progress that has been made on FAIs for Scottish soldiers is welcome, it is vital that we do not see any further unnecessary dithering on this issue.

"We had to wait far too long for the Scottish and UK Governments to finally get their acts together on this. It is now essential that we see the necessary measures put through both Parliaments and implemented with the minimum of delay.

"The families of those brave troops who have made the ultimate sacrifice are owed an enormous debt of gratitude by this country. We must do everything we can to support them through an unimaginably difficult time."
