Cuts to Fife's housing budget will mean thousands of households searching for social housing will be left waiting.
West Fife MP Willie Rennie has revealed his dismay at the news that the amount of funding that is to be awarded for new build social housing in Fife has been cut by 27%.
Mr Rennie has described the announcement as "massive blow" for the 12,500 Fife households in housing need and has accused the SNP of breaking their promise to tackle Fife's housing crisis
Commenting Mr Rennie said:
"Fife has been let down by the SNP Government in Edinburgh. Fife, especially West Fife, has an affordable housing shortage and this will only get worse because of the SNP's decision to short change Fife.
"Cutting a quarter of the funds is a massive blow. A cut from £21.5m to £16.9m in two years is unacceptable.
"Fife's partnership of the council and housing associations has an incredible record for building good affordable homes. Yet the SNP Government has penalised them instead of rewarding them for this record.
"There is a huge demand for housing in Fife, particularly in West Fife where every week at my local surgery I see how desperate people are for social housing.
"The formula used to allocate the social housing funds - Bramley and Waugh - are fundamentally flawed and need changed urgently."
"I have already raised this issue personally with the Housing Minister, Alex Neil, and will be writing to him officially asking him to urgently review the funding arrangements."
