The future of Fife's main transport artery will finally be discussed in Parliament after West Fife MP Willie Rennie secured a debate in the House of Commons on funding proposals for the construction of a new crossing over the River Forth.
Mr Rennie intends to use the debate, which is due to take place on Monday 18th May, to pressurise the Scottish and UK Governments to seek an agreement to fund the bridge and has warned that any delay over a decision could start to adversely affect business confidence.
Commenting Mr Rennie said:
"It's unacceptable that the most significant infrastructure project for a generation remains in a state of limbo.
"The longer the uncertainty over the funding continues the greater the concern will be in Fife - especially in the business community who need a guarantee that Fife will not be cut off.
"This debate will be the perfect opportunity to knock a few heads together and bring an end to all the uncertainty that has dogged this project from day one. I'm hopeful that once that is achieved, we'll be able finalise a funding agreement which will get the best possible result for Fife."
