Commenting on an announcement from the First Minister welcoming plans outlined by the UK Government for the possible development of carbon capture technology at Longannet power station, local Liberal Democrat MP for Dunfermline and West Fife Willie Rennie said:

"The First Minister's contribution is welcome, but we need more than just words for Longannet to reach its carbon capture potential.

"Just what is Alex Salmond prepared to do to support Longannet and turn it into Scotland's green power house?

"Longannet has a chance to lead the world in carbon capture and storage technology. This is a real credit to the skills of the bright people who work at the station."
