Cllr Keith Legg, the Lib Dem Councillor for Rosyth and North Queensferry, has today called for the immediate closure of Grange Road to through traffic.
Cllr Legg said "Given that there have been two fatalities on this road in the last couple of years, we have to simply grasp the fact that this road is unsafe. Unfortunately, the money's not there for a complete closure, but by effectively splitting the road through the use of bollards we can still ensure access for emergency services, cyclists and pedestrians while closing the road for through commuter traffic."
Cllr Legg continued: "I know officers are working on a proposal for this which needs to be brought to the City of Dunfermline and South West Fife Area Committees for approval as soon as possible. If we work quickly, we can get this done in about 8 weeks. I know that this is a measure which is wanted by local residents in both Dunfermline and Rosyth, and to delay any further for full consultation would simply increase greatly the risk of more fatalities on this stretch of road."
