The delay to the in service dates for the two aircraft carriers is likely to increase the cost of the project. That's the claim made by Rosyth MP Willie Rennie who has criticised the Government for behaving like a hyperactive donkey.
"Delaying the carriers risks cost increases," said Mr Rennie.
"As we emerge from the recession the costs of materials will rise forcing up the cost of the carriers.
"This may save the Government pennies now but the taxpayer will have to pick up the tab later.
"The old Greek doctrine "the only constant is change" seems to be central to the MOD's philosophy but they're more like a hyperactive donkey.
The ink has just dried on the carriers contract but now heads will be spinning at Rosyth and on the Clyde following this news. This announcement will cause huge uncertainty at Rosyth and on the Clyde."
