Local MP Willie Rennie has called on the Scottish and UK governments to "get their act together" and introduce an immediate economic recovery after it was revealed that unemployment in Dunfermline and West Fife was the highest across the whole of Fife.
Figures released by the government show that unemployment in West Fife has risen by over 30% in the last year.
Mr Rennie has again his reiterated his calls for the Scottish and UK governments to introduce Vince Cable's economic recovery plan, which would include tax cuts for low and middle income households, stopping unnecessary repossessions, action to cut energy bills and restrictions on reckless banks
Commenting Mr Rennie said:
"These figures just emphasise how hard families across the Kingdom are suffering at the moment. The effects of the banking crisis are now being felt across every local community and the situation is expected only going to get worse before we reach Christmas.
"Families in Fife are really struggling at the moment and what they need more than anything is the practical support to take the burden away from the weekly struggle to pay their bills.
"Rather than spending its time arguing with the opposition, the Government in both Scotland and the UK should consider the proposals put forward by the Liberal Democrats which would cut energy bills and introduce tax cuts for low and middle income households which give people much needed helping hand before Christmas."
