Rennie describes attempts by SNP to take credit for Dunloch School as complete fiction

November 13, 2008 3:00 PM

Local MP Willie Rennie has dismissed attempts made by the SNP Government to take credit for the school building programme put in place under the previous Lib Dem-Labour executive as complete fiction.

Mr Rennie was reacting to the news that Fiona Hyslop, the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning would be formally opening four new schools in the next two weeks.

Ms Hyslop is scheduled to open Duloch Primary School in Dunfermline despite funding for the building being entirely secured under the previous Lib Dem-Labour executive

Commenting Mr Rennie said:

"The £63 million that was needed to build Dunloch Primary School was funded entirely by the old Lib Dem-Labour Executive. The SNP did not provide one penny of it and have not funded the building of one single additional school in Fife since they came to power. But bizarrely this still hasn't stopped them from taking the credit.

"This just goes to show how misguided and arrogant the SNP have been. Instead of taking credit for the achievements of the Liberal Democrats; they should try making some of their own by funding the new schools that Fife needs.

"The SNP have promised 250 schools will be paid for and delivered during the life of this Parliament; but judging by their recent behaviour this is just another example of the SNP making promises they have no intention of keeping."
