Local MP Willie Rennie has tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons praising Fife Council's creation of a comprehensive autism development plan for school children.
The plan will set improved and consistent standards for autism services in schools in the Fife area.
Mr Rennie has hailed the strategy as an example for other local authorities to follow and has called for funding to be given directly to the child or adult using the service.
Commenting, Willie said:
"The superb work of Fife Council was brought to my attention when I recently met with parents with children suffering from autism spectrum disorders. Their efforts show how important it is that local authorities pay more attention to the individual needs of children with autism."
"The comprehensive plan developed by Fife Council should be lauded as an example for other local authorities wishing to develop their own strategy."
"We need to do more to ensure that children suffering from a severe and complex disability are given the appropriate care. Giving some teachers just one day's training is completely inadequate and unacceptable.
"We can improve the standard of requiring all teachers with autistic children in their classes to attend comprehensive training courses and by allocating funding directly to the individual child or adult so that the money is spent in the most effective manner possible."
