Dunfermline and West Fife MP, Willie Rennie has asked constituents for "one final push" to show their support for the National Federation of Subpostmaster's campaign to win the contract for the new Card Account.
Mr. Rennie has so far received over 500 postcards from individuals across his constituency urging the Government to award the new contract to the Post Office.
There are currently 4.3 million individuals in the UK using the Card Account, after the Government ruled all pensions and benefits had to be paid directly into a bank account. 3,000 people in Dunfermline and West Fife use the Post Office Card Account to collect their benefits or state pension.
A long awaited decision on who wins the tender to run the successor to the POCA account is due to be announced within weeks by James Purnell, the Work and Pensions Secretary.
Commenting Mr Rennie said:
"I am delighted with the enthusiasm and support throughout Dunfermline and West Fife for this campaign; but we still need one final push."
"Over 500 postcards is a fantastic response that shows the Government how important the Post Office is to the local community".
"People deserve to have simple, straightforward access to their money. Giving the new Card Account contract to the Post Office will keep this unique, personal service alive and bring a much deserved lifeline to rural post offices."
