Local MP Willie Rennie is seeking answers about the future of The Royal Bank of Scotland, Halifax and Lloyds TSB offices and branches in the aftermath of last week's merger.
Lloyd TSB's takeover of HBOS has plunged jobs for employees of both companies, as well as branch opening hours, into uncertainty. Mr. Rennie has written to the Chairman of Lloyd's TSB, Sir Victor Blank, in order to gain his urgent assurance that staff will not be lost and branches won't be closed.
Commenting Mr. Rennie said:
"Lloyds have already announced that the takeover will lead to cost savings of more than £1 billion, and this money will have to come from somewhere."
"Local people are understandably anxious that these cost saving measures will lead to job cuts, reductions in branch opening hours and the closure of offices and bank branches."
"Therefore, I have asked Lloyds TSB to give urgent assurances that the community, or the people who work within these banks, will not lose out as a result of this merger."
