Local MP Willie Rennie has welcomed news that the future of the Rosyth-Zeebrugge ferry route has been secured.
The route, Scotland's only year round ferry service to Europe, has been under threat since May, when Superfast Ferries announced that it would stop operating on the Roysth route from mid-September. However, it was announced today that a new operator has been secured for the service and that it will resume from next Spring.
Commenting Mr Rennie said:
"I am delighted to hear that the Rosyth Ferry Service will be saved. It would have been a great shame for Scotland to lose such a vital connection with Europe."
"Of course, I am disappointed to hear that we will be without the ferry link for several months. However, I am very pleased to hear that the service will continuing to be an integral part of Rosyth's future."
"In the long run, a thriving ferry service will be great for our economy, our tourism and for Scotland."
