Dunfermline and West Fife MP Willie Rennie has reacted angrily to the news that the HM Revenue and Customs office in Dunfermline has been earmarked for closure. The announcement yesterday of the branches earmarked for closure will be followed by an eight week consultation period.
Speaking after the announcement, Willie Rennie said:
"Today's announcement will be a terrible blow to the members of staff concerned at the Dunfermline tax office.
"It is ludicrous that it has taken eighteen months for HMRC officials to complete their review and come to this devastating conclusion.
"The announcement of the proposed closures smacks of overbearing centralisation.
"The Labour Government has made great play of its policy of locating civil service jobs outside the major cities, but today's announcement reveals this to be an utter fallacy."
