Dunfermline and West Fife MP Willie Rennie has today congratulated Crossgates Primary School on their achievement of a 'Silver Flag' from the Eco-Schools scheme, the second in three tiers of award which rewards environmental awareness in schools. To obtain the award, amongst a variety of other things both pupils and parents have to be involved in an environmental committee, which draws up an 'Eco-Code' and action plan for the school, in order to make the school and the local area a greener, more environmentally aware place.
Commenting, Willie Rennie MP said:
"This is a fantastic scheme which helps raise awareness of environmental issues - and where better to start than at school? Parents and pupils working side by side helps create the perfect ethos for environmental action, and I am very proud that a school in my constituency has achieved the Silver Flag.
"I hope to visit the school soon and see what plans they have put into action, which hopefully will feed back into the curriculum and maybe teach me a few things as well! Crossgates Primary are setting a good example for schools across Fife, and hopefully more schools will be moved to do the same."
