Rennie insists MPs must "think whilst they drink" and remember the armed forces

February 27, 2008 9:17 AM

Local MP Willie Rennie has successfully managed to bring Spitfire Ale into the 'Strangers Bar,' the MPs bar in the House of Commons, along with a promise that all profits from the sale of the beer would go to the 'Help for Heroes' charity, which aims to provide support to injured servicemen, and has enjoyed wide-ranged support from the Head of the British Army (General Sir Richard Dannatt) to David Beckham and Prince William.

Willie Rennie said:

"It is absolutely right that the MPs who send troops away to war should reflect on the results of their votes, and what better way than over a pint especially when the profits go to the heroes charity. These men are risking their lives for our nation, and the very least we can do is support them when they are injured on our behalf."

"I hope every MP will take the chance to sample a pint of Spitfire Ale in the Strangers Bar and support the troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, who need our help and support.
