Willie Rennie has welcomed the announcement from NHS Fife that they would be purchasing another intensive care cot for the Neonatal Unit in Kirckaldy, taking the total to six. Mr Rennie had previously written to George Brechin, the Chief Executive of NHS Fife expressing concern at the inadequacy of provision for premature and ill babies.
Mr Brechin also reassured Mr Rennie that staffing levels were normally adequate to provide one-on-one care for babies.
Willie Rennie said:
"I am very pleased to hear the NHS Fife will be investing in the extra intensive care cot, it is extremely important that we provide care for these most vulnerable of babies.
"It is also encouraging to hear that staffing levels allow one-on-one care, which has to be a priority for babies in such a delicate condition."
