Willie Rennie MP and Jim Tolson are reminding all local residents in Dunfermline West that they must be registered by 18th April 2007 to vote in the local council and Scottish Parliament elections which take place on Thursday 3rd May.
"If you are 18 or over on the 3rd of May and live in Scotland, you are probably entitled to vote. But to take part in the election, you must be registered to vote. Most people will complete and return their registration form in the autumn but it's easy to forget or to make a mistake and miss out someone in your household," Jim said.
"If you are not absolutely sure whether you are registered to vote, it's far better to find out now rather than be disappointed at the polling station. If you are in doubt as to whether you are registered, please feel free to phone our office on 01383 841700 or e-mail jim@dunfermlinelibdems.org.uk. We can send you the relevant form to register to vote or you can download it from the Fife Council website."
"Another option is to register to vote by post which is useful if you find it difficult or inconvenient to visit your local polling station on election day. I know lots of local parents with young children and those who travel during their working week who use this option as well as elderly or infirm residents. To obtain a postal vote, however, you need to fill in a postal vote application form by Wednesday 18th April 2007," said Willie. "Again, if you contact us we can send you the form for you to complete and return to Fife Council. Alternatively you can download it from the Fife Council website."
