Local Lib Dem MP Willie Rennie has called for safety measures to be introduced at junction 2 of the M90. The call came following the publication of new figures that show there have been five accidents in the last four years at the northbound junction.
"This junction is dangerous with fast traffic exiting and joining the motorway at the same point," said the MP. "Drivers who are relieved to have got over the busy Forth Road Bridge drive downhill at fast speeds. Many come off at this junction onto the A823(M) whilst others leaving Rosyth often can't see the cars coming before it is too late.
"I have had numerous complaints from constituents who have been involved in "near-misses" at this junction. I myself have come close to an accident."
"Bear Scotland has admitted that there is a problem but are refusing to take any action. They say that the junctions (one and two) are too close but will not introduce any safety measures. Bear Scotland says that trying to separate the traffic flows would effectively close junction 2 but I want them to look at this again as the status quo is far too dangerous."
