Willie Rennie today grilled the Defence Minister Adam Ingram on the Government's plans for the new aircraft carriers due to be built at Rosyth dockyard. In Defence Questions in the House of Commons today, Mr Rennie asked for assurances that the carriers would indeed be ordered, following recent reports in the media that they would be abandoned due to cuts in Royal Navy funding.
Willie Rennie, the MP for Rosyth dockyard said:
"The carrier project has long been earmarked for Rosyth, and I wanted to secure assurances from the Minister that those plans remain in place.
"I also wanted to be sure that the delay in firming up the plans is not some cack-handed attempt to use the decision for political advantage ahead of the elections to the Scottish Parliament later this year."
