"Fife Council action on homelessness is long overdue" - Rennie

January 17, 2007 3:52 PM

Willie Rennie has today welcomed the news that Fife Council has suspended the right to buy for around 237 tenants in West Fife for up to five years. The area has now achieved 'Pressurised Status', something for which Mr Rennie has been calling for a long time.

The news will come as a real boost to the many people who have homeless.

Responding to the news local Lib Dem MP Willie Rennie said:

"I am pleased that the Scottish Executive has listened to my pleas for urgent action on homelessness. This measure will help tackle the dreadful position that too many people find themselves in West Fife.

"Several times a week I receive desperate appeals from desperate constituents in desperate situations. I have people being forced to live in tents and sheds because they have nowhere to live. It is unacceptable in a modern society."
