There's going to be a terrible accident involving a bus if nothing is done. That's the view of the local MP on the danger bus passengers face just north of the Forth Road Bridge on the A90. MP Willie Rennie has asked Fife Council and Bear Scotland to move the bus stop a couple of hundred yards north to avoid accidents in the future. Currently buses stopping at the Corus Hotel have to rejoin the A90 despite the traffic travelling at very fast speeds coming off the bridge.
"This is a very dangerous bus stop," said Mr Rennie. "I have spoken to the bus company who tell me that drivers are filled with dread every time they try to negotiate their bus back onto the carriageway after using the stop. I have been on the bus myself several times when it has used that stop and saw the speed the traffic was going. I held my breath until we were safely on our way.
"A simple solution would be to move the bus stop down to the lay by which is a further 200 yards on up the A90. Buses that use the stop would then carry on down the slip road to Ferry Toll rather than renter the busy road.
"I have written to Fife Council and Bear Scotland who tell me that the bus company can use the lay by at peak periods. But that is no solution as the road is busy most of the time and if a passenger is waiting at the original bus stop then the bus has to pick them up."
