Willie Rennie has today launched a petition calling on the Government to act to save Post Office branches from closure.
The petition is in response to the announcement by the Government on Thursday 14th December that they are axing 2,500 Post Office branches across the country. Opposition to Labour's plans have been led by Liberal Democrats both in Parliament and in Dunfermline and West Fife.
The new closures come on top of the 4,000 that have already closed under Labour since Tony Blair became Prime Minister and 3,500 that were axed by the previous Conservative government.
Willie Rennie said:
"We have already seen the closure of 8 out of 50 branches in Dunfermline and West Fife between 1999 and 2005. Liberal Democrats are seriously concerned that local residents will lose more branches in coming years under Labour's closure plans.
"We have launched the petition so that people in our constituency can send Tony Blair and Gordon Brown a clear message: don't sound the last post for our Post Offices, we want them kept open."
