The issue of the planned job losses at Solectron has been raised in the Houses of Parliament by local MP Willie Rennie. Rennie has tabled a motion expressing his concern at the plans to cut all 440 jobs and close the plant in Dunfermline, and has urged that the Scottish Executive and all appropriate Government agencies do their utmost to provide help and support all of those who will be laid off.
The losses are all the more surprising because the company had performed excellently under the leadership of Mark Cumming, and has successfully moved away from high-volume manufacture to more specialist areas.
Commenting on the expected losses, Willie Rennie said:
"The closure of the Solectron plant is a real blow to the local area, it is vitally important that the Executive provides substantial support for the workers and their families.
"It is especially disappointing to learn that these losses will go ahead because Mark Cumming had been doing an excellent job at Solectron and the company appeared to be thriving. I have tabled the Motion in the House of Commons to bring the issue to the attention of as many people as possible."
