Local MP Willie Rennie has today urged schools and colleges in Dunfermline and West Fife to register teams for the Parliamentary Press Gallery writing competition. This competition is aimed at pupils in years 10 to 13, and is designed to complement citizenship lessons in schools. It is supported by the Parliamentary Education Unit and sponsored by Dods Parliamentary Communications.
The winner will be invited to spend a day at Westminster, with all expenses paid, in early March 2007, and will get the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House of Commons.
Willie Rennie said:
"This writing competition run by the Parliamentary Press Gallery is hugely successful in attracting school pupils to gain a greater knowledge of democracy, and the role journalism plays in British politics.
"This is a brilliant opportunity for young adults in Dunfermline and West Fife to gain such knowledge and the chance of meeting the Prime Minister and Speaker is an excellent incentive."
