Local MP Willie Rennie has today urged schools and colleges in Dunfermline and West Fife to register teams for the 2007 ifs Student Investor Challenge, sponsored by Deutsche Bank, Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust and Bloomberg.
The free to enter competition is open to teams of 4 students aged between 14 and 19 and involves investing a fantasy £100,000 in the stock market over a three month period.
The best performing teams in each of four regions (1) Northern England, Scotland & Northern Ireland (2) English Midlands & Wales (3) South East England and (4) South West England take part in a final challenge consisting of a business challenge and a presentation.
The winning team will receive an all expenses paid trip to New York and £2,000 for their school. There are a range of other prizes for second and third placed teams as well as monthly prizes throughout the 3-month challenge. Over 30,000 students took part in last year's ifs Student Investor Challenge and even more are expected to register this year.
Willie Rennie said:
"The ifs Student Investor Challenge is hugely successful in attracting young people to gain a greater knowledge of the stock market, investments and business. This is an excellent opportunity for young adults in my constituency to gain such knowledge and the chance of winning a fantastic prize for themselves and their school is clearly a great incentive."
Anne Kiem, Head of External Affairs at the ifs School of Finance said:
"The challenge is a useful tool in educating about finance - giving students a practical insight into stock markets, savings and investments. It is also good experience for students to work as part of a team in a competitive environment."
To register a team or for more details, simply go to www.studentinvestor.org before November 5 2006.
