Following a meeting with Defence Minister, Adam Ingram, local Liberal Democrat MP, Willie Rennie, has secured an assurance that important defence work is to be moved to Crombie.
Mr Rennie asked Adam Ingram to confirm that Towed Array Sonar work would be moved from Beith to Crombie. There had been some speculation that the work might take place in Devon.
Willie Rennie commented:
"This is excellent news for Crombie and it should secure a number of jobs.
"The decision to downgrade Crombie earlier this year at the cost of 142 jobs was a real blow. The transfer of new work to Crombie will do much to increase confidence in its future.
"This is good news for local workers and good news for the local economy."
