Willie with model teacher made by children at Townhill Primary School
Local Liberal Democrat MP, Willie Rennie, presented model teachers to Number 10 Downing Street as part of the 'My Friend Needs a Teacher' campaign. The model teachers were made by students of Crombie and Townhill Primary Schools.
Speaking on the steps of Number 10, Mr Rennie said:
"I am delighted to be able to support this excellent campaign. Local children have designed some fantastic models and I hope that Tony Blair will understand the point they are marking.
"There are 100 million children in the world who are out of school and there is a shortfall of more than 15 million teachers.
"No matter how much children complain about going to school, they know how important education is. And when they hear that so many children do not receive even a basic education, they want to do something about it.
"The point of this campaign is to raise awareness and to ensure that the British Government commits itself to significant aid for education in the developing world."
