Rennie exposes fax scam

Local Liberal Democrat MP, Willie Rennie, this week exposed a scam to con local businesses. The sting involves sending marketing faxes to businesses, offering them the chance to fax back if they d not wish to receive any further faxes. However, each faxed reply costs £4.50.
Mr Rennie denounced Communication Data, the Chester-based company behind the scam:
"This is an outrageous scam. It is clear that the company makes its money not out of marketing but out of what amounts to extortion. Companies are given the choice of receiving constant marketing faxes from Communication Data and its clients or paying an unreasonable amount to be removed from the list.
Mr Rennie has now forwarded information about the scam to Communication Data's local Trading Standards Service.
