Local MP, Willie Rennie, welcomed NHS Fife's decision to rule out car parking charges in local hospitals.
He said:
"I am pleased that NHS Fife has decided to rule out car parking charges at local hospitals. I have always said that charging would be completely unacceptable and would hit patients and hospital staff alike."
Fife Liberal Democrats, Willie Rennie MP and Andrew Arbuckle MSP, called on NHS Fife to rule out car parking charges in a letter sent to Jim McGoldrick earlier this month. In the letter, Willie Rennie pointed out that car park charging proposals had been rejected in 2000 and remained extremely unpopular.
A NHS Fife Spokesperson confirmed this week that car parking charges had been ruled out. She said:
"Car park charges are definitely not on any agenda at the present time."
Fife Council Transportation Manager, Trond Haugen, said:
"The NHS travel plans will be comprehensive and will seek to address integrated travel options for patients and visitors, and particularly for staff.
"Working with NHS Fife, we hope that we can improve travel options, however, any future decision on charging for parking at hospitals rests with NHS Fife."
