Dunfermline Councillor, Joe Rosiejak, and local MP, Willie Rennie, made a joint call this week for community wardens to be deployed outside school gates to deal with traffic problems at the start and end of school days. Councillor Joe Rosiejak, who is the Liberal Democrat Opposition Spokesperson for Children's Services, said:
"Traffic at the start and end of school days is a real problem. This is not only a matter of congestion, but child safety. I think that local schools would welcome extra support in managing the school run rush.
"I wasn't sure about community wardens when they were first introduced. But I have seen the good work they have done and the connections they have made with local communities.
"Community wardens could work with schools to manage the traffic and ensure that, above all, pupils are kept safe."
Speaking after a tour of Abbeyview by local community wardens last week, local MP, Willie Rennie, praised their "dedication and commitment" and "the warmth local people have towards local wardens". He is offering his backing for Joe Rosiejak's campaign:
"This is exactly the sort of thing that community wardens can do really well. I know Joe will carry this campaign forward and I look forward to seeing community wardens outside school gates in the near future."
