Fife Council has been heavily criticised for failing to invest a single penny in cross Forth bus travel. The criticism came from Dunfermline and West Fife MP, Willie Rennie, who is campaigning to cut congestion on the Forth Road Bridge.
Mr Rennie said:
"I was appalled to discover that Fife Council do not invest a single penny in supporting bus services crossing the Forth Road Bridge. They invest £9million a year in bus services but not a jot for the most congested part of Fife.
"Commuters travelling to the centre of Edinburgh are well served by buses and trains. However, those who work in Leith, the west of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and West Lothian are not. It is time Fife Council recognised that and did something about it.
"Nine out of ten vehicles that cross the Forth Road Bridge in the morning are not travelling to the centre of Edinburgh.
"I was pleased to see the new 747 airport service introduced but that is in place thanks to investment from the Scottish Executive. No investment for that was received from Fife Council.
"I want commuters to have comfortable, reliable and frequent alternatives to using their cars but Fife Council is not helping one bit to make that happen."
