Lib Dem by-election candidate Willie Rennie today pledged to fight for a city centre to make the people of Dunfermline proud.
He is leading the calls to force Labour-run Fife Council to take action over the abandoned Co-op site that blights Dunfermline centre and today launched his petition to restore the city's High Street and heritage with the help of Scottish Party Leader Nicol Stephen MSP and Jo Swinson MP.
The Lib Dem by-election candidate has been asked by people of all ages - from school children to pensioners - to help get something done.
Speaking from the High Street today, Willie Rennie said:
"Dunfermline has a great heritage but thanks to Labour you'd hardly know it. I am campaigning to make sure Labour-run Fife Council does not neglect our city centre any more.
"The derelict old Co-op site is a symbol of the years of neglect and lack of investment. Many people have told me how ashamed they are of this eyesore on our High Street and they are desperate for action to tidy it up.
"We need a centre that has the leisure, cultural and retail facilities that befit a growing historic city.
"The council must prioritise the regeneration of our High Street. The old Co-op site in particular has huge potential and the regeneration of this area could transform the High Street.
"We deserve a High Street to be proud of and I am determined to make this happen."
