Willie Rennie has called on the Post Office to scrap plans to sell Dunfermline Post Office to a national retail chain.
In a letter to Post Office Ltd, Willie expressed deep concern about the plans to transfer the running of the Post Office to C J Lang & Son Ltd and what this will mean for the long-term future of Post Office counter services in the city.
In 2004, four sub Post Offices in the Dunfermline area were closed. Post Office Ltd said at the time that it had no intention of announcing closures. Now, less than two years later, local residents fear that this move could be a back-door route to closure.
Around the country, Post Offices have been closed after being taken over by retail chains once they decide that the franchises no longer fit into their business plans.
