Dunfermline Campaigner Chosen

December 13, 2005 3:33 PM
Nicol Stephen and Willie Rennie

Nicol Stephen is backing Willie Rennie to challenge New Labour in Dunfermline

Willie Rennie has been chosen by Dunfermline Liberal Democrats to be the Party's Holyrood Spokesman for Dunfermline West.

Speaking after the selection Mr. Rennie said:

"At the General Election in May the Lib Dems confirmed that they are the real challengers to Labour in Dunfermline and West Fife.

"We pushed the SNP into 3rd place here.

"I am delighted to be selected as the Holyrood Spokesman. The strong Lib Dem team and myself will be building on May's success in the run up to the Scottish Parliament and Fife Council Elections in 2007.

"The election in May was a great result for the Lib Dems, both locally and across Scotland.

"The strong local team of Lib Dem councillors here and Andrew Arbuckle MSP will continue to work hard for local residents. The Liberal Democrats already have five local councillors here. Compared with this the SNP have only one, and the Tories have none!"

On top of this excellent local result, the Liberal Democrats also pushed the SNP into third place across Scotland, winning the second highest number of votes and seats. The Lib Dems are now the real alternative to Labour in most of Scotland.
